Are you spending much of your time inside, staring at digital devices for long hours while working from home? As the world deals with covid-19, people set up desks in their kitchens, dining rooms, or living rooms and work from home.

Working from home can negatively impact your eyesight. Staring at computer or mobile screens for long hours can cause eye strain. An increased amount of screen time causes eye strain, resultingt in headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, and sometimes difficulty focusing. 

You may not be able to decrease the use of these digital devices just yet, but you can protect your eyes as you use them.  

Essential Tips to Keep Eyes Healthy:

To avoid straining your eyes and keeping them healthy, keep these essential eye care tips in mind while working, and learning from home. 

  1.  Brighten up your space with natural light. 
  2. Stay clear of dark and dim corners where your computer screen glares at you. 
  3. Maintain proper distance. Keep screens at arm’s length from your eyes. 
  4.  Ensure the brightness and contrast are set correctly on your computer
  5. After every 30 minutes, take a break from the computer screen. 
  6.  Increase the font size.
  7.  Remember to blink often as it helps to moisten and refresh our eyes.
  8. Reduce the glare from your monitor by installing an anti-glare or matte screen protector.
  9.  Choose the right eyewear. Find a pair of prescription glasses that allows you to focus your eyes on a computer screen. 
  10.   Avoid wearing contact lenses while working on a computer screen as this may worsen any dry eyes symptoms you may have.
  11. Follow the “20-20-20” rule. Look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds for every 20 minutes spent looking at the screen.
  12.  Use eye drops.
