I see lots of good points in this thread, but I add one; retaliation. I been harassed by groups of vegans at my university for as little as having a roast beef sandwich (“You just gonna gobble that up, right in front of us?!”). I also been forced into social situations where the only meal option had to be vegan to accomodate a small number of group members. Every single time that has happened, the meal has been horrible. Cauliflower soup with not even a sprinkle of salt, or even bread, was probably the worst thing I eaten in my life. Not saying there aren good vegan foods, I just saying I yet to experience it. I agree, there is an issue there. I have not had the dishes you describe, and I associate vegan food with that God awful cauliflower soup. I am well aware that this is not a universal truth, I sure there are amazing vegan dishes, I just saying that in my experience, I yet to have any. My uncle died when I was about 12. Everyone just told me he was in a better place, and that he be resting (painlessly) forever. I interpreted it that death was like sleeping, so for years after I started saying good night to my uncle, like a bedside prayer. I figured he deserved a good night sleep as much as anyone. I even make up a rhyme, but it in Swedish so it wouldn make much sense to translate.
I still mumble those rhymes before I go to bed every now and then. It makes me feel grounded, in a way.
